| Originally built in 1937, the building that is The Bay House has always been a restaurant. Since 1978, this restaurant has provided a unique and wonderful setting for a fabulous dining experience, and that has not been an accident.
Regardless of the many wonderful attributes of The Bay House (our magnificent view, outstanding service staff, and 2000-selection wine list, fabulous new Cocktail Lounge), our primary focus is on the food. In all of the greatest restaurants in the world, the culinary staff is directed by the vision of the Executive Chef, and we are no exception. Kevin Ryan has guided our culinary program since 2012, though he has been a part of The Bay House family ever since he was our local high school intern back in 2004. | One of the most often asked questions is "Are you the same Dory Cove as on the other end of town?" We opened this location on May 21st, 2007 after six months of remodeling and expanding the kitchen after the unfortunate fire at the old location. We brought the entire group of employees and all the recipes and the menu to this location so that the great nearly 40-year tradition would not die in the flames with the original building.
All of the dishes are as you remember them; the chowder is still, and always will be, the best you ever enjoyed. Our friendly staff and dedicated cooks have continued over the years to bring you the best and tastiest of dining experiences. | Lil Sambos Restaurant has been a coastal landmark for over fifty years. In 1957 there were just a handful of restaurants in the area.
One question we are often asked is whether or not we were ever a part of the �Sambo�s� national chain; the answer is no. Our name Lil Sambos is borrowed from the hero of a fictional story about an Indian boy, tigers, and pancakes written by Helen Bannerman in 1899.
Over the years our founder made Lil Sambos a coastal landmark. A place where High school kids found their summer jobs and where locals and visitors came to enjoy great food in a family oriented environment. In 1995 the restaurant changed hands but the recipes and dedication to tradition remains.
In 2002 a fire destroyed the original well-worn structure. This building rests on the original footings. |
